PAT Explorer is on it's way - November 1

Schools have been chasing us to do a PAT explorer, based on the spreadsheet data they view from ACER PAT tests.
So, we did. We are in the final stages of testing and aim to have PAT Explorer and PAT for Power BI available from November 1. Here are some great examples of what we have done with the PAT data.
Schools simply load their spreadsheet reports by drag and drop, complete 3 fields and voila, ready to go.

How technology can help make the mark

Schools today have more learning data at their finger tips than ever before. When collected, profiled and made visible, this data delivers critical insight models as a foundation to a self-learning ecosystem.

The broad spread of achievement levels in most classrooms makes it hard for teachers to implement best practice whilst targeting their teaching to the needs of every individual student. Studies highlight that at any given year level there is a five to six year difference between the most advanced and the least advanced 10% of students.

The 2015 Gratten Report on education suggests “it is essential that schools and education systems continue to focus on targeting teaching to the individual needs of every child to make the greatest progress in learning, regardless of where they start from”.

Managing the individual learning needs of every child is a huge task many researchers and stakeholders across education are happy to ’leave to teachers’. Whilst school administrations commit to systems designed to manage learning, the real need is to develop skills and supporting technology to help teachers better measure learning.  There is a big difference between the two.

Each year, significant summative learning data is delivered to every school via NAPLAN. Whilst summary reporting is most often seen, the true value of NAPLAN for teachers, schools and parents lies in the detailed data contained below the summary reports.

NAPLAN’s data offers deep insights into where students need immediate help and where teachers can better target teaching. If students have been at the same school, the data presents a longitudinal view of progress.

Literatu’s NAPLAN Explorer surfaces this valuable data via a series of informative dashboards. The mission is to help teachers grow learning using learning data.

Questions about data?

NSW is the leader when it comes to making it easy for schools to get access to NAPLAN data for up to 6 prior years.
Unfortunately, it is not that easy in other states. We are actively working with schools in Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia and Queensland to discover the best way to get the data needed for NAPLAN Explorer.
We will keep you posted. Once we break through with one school, the data gateway will be solved for all schools.
